Trash Tips

  1. Please don't litter! It makes the community look trashy. If you see someone that you know who is littering, please ask them to stop it! Especially don't throw food, this can attract rats!
  2. Never break glass on sidwalks or streets! If you do, clean it up right away. If you see someone break glass without cleaning it up, please report them to the police at 301-279-8000. Why? "Nothing is so cruel, as is broken glass to the foot of an innocent child."
  3. Keep trash in cans, and and cover them tightly to keep animals out of the cans.
  4. Please store trash cans and recycling bins out of sight, not in the front yard.
  5. Please follow proper procedures for recycling plastic, glass, paper, and metal.
  6. Please place trash cans and recycling bins at the curb on the night or morning before the scheduled collection. Please don't leave trash out on the curb for a long time! Also, please store trash cans and recycling bins promptly after pick-up.
  7. Yard-trash such as leaves, grass clippings, or other vegetation, should be recycled by placing it at the curb for pickup. Please use a trash can labelled "yard waste", or in appropriate bags. You can get these bags at the grocery store, or home-improvement store.
  8. For large items such as appliances or furniture, or for a very large amount of trash, you can call 240-777-6410 for a special trash pick-up.
  9. Hazardous Waste must not be mixed with regular trash! Please call 240-777-6410 to find the nearest Hazardous Waste Collection Center.

Yard Care

  1. Please take frequent care of your yard! Regularly cut the grass, and trim your shrubs.
  2. Please trim your trees and shrubs so that they don't block the sidewalk, and so that they don't block the view of drivers to create traffic hazards. Also, please keep sidewalks cleaned of fallen branches or other debris.
  3. Please don't let yard-trimmings accumulate in such as way as to attract rodents. Rats may make their own homes in piles of yard-waste. If you see any rats, please call Rodent Control at 240-777-3986!

Parking

  1. If your street has signs that say "Snow Emergency Route", don't park on the street if it is snowing! These are the first streets to be cleaned of snow, and they must be kept open to allow emergency vehicles to travel.
  2. Cars, Trucks, or other such equipment should not be parked on grass. This can cause erosion of soil, please don't do it. Montgomery County Code Enforcement can enforce this.
  3. Boats and trailers must not be parked on the streets.
  4. Please don't block the sidewalk with your parked car. The police can give you a ticket for $35.00 if you block the sidewalk with a parked car.

Pets

  1. Rabies is a dangerous disease which can occur in this area. All pets such as cats and dogs must have a current rabies shot and license.
  2. Dogs must be on a leash if outside the owner's property.
  3. Cats may not roam from the owner's property.
  4. You must clean up your pet's droppings. Children can step in these droppings, and carry germs into the home. Some of these diseases can be dangerous. There is a fine of $100.00 if you don't clean up your pet's droppings.
  5. Stray dogs and cats should be reported to Animal Control, telephone 240-773-5925.
  6. Please feed pets or birds only from appropriate feeders, and please keep the feeding area clean. Leftover food can attract rats.

Pest Control

  1. If you see an animal that acts strangely, or has frothy saliva around their mouth, don't chase it, get to safety and call Animal Control at 240-773-5925. It might have rabies.
  2. Be careful to keep old tires and other containers dry. Standing water breeds mosquitoes. Mosquitos in this area may have West Nile Virus which can be dangerous.
  3. Don't feed pests! Don't throw food on the ground, clean up around your trash cans and the curb area where you place your trash for recycling.
